New TV Ads in Alaska
Washington - Today, Club for Growth.Net began running a major statewide ad buy in Alaska. The $100,000 ad buy will run for two weeks on broadcast and cable television throughout the state.
The ad buy contains two 15 second bookend ads-"Dollar a Gallon" and "Slow Down"-and seeks to educate people in Alaska about Don Young's recent support for a one dollar a gallon gas tax. Even as gasoline prices topped four dollars a gallon, Rep. Don Young called for a 400% increase in the gas tax because Young wants people to stop driving "like a bunch of idiots." Young made these comments during a Transportation Committee Hearing on May 6, 2008. If enough people call Don Young, perhaps he will reconsider such misguided proposals in the future.
"Listening to Don Young propose a huge gas tax hike, it is clear that the congressman is out of touch with regular Americans," said Club for Growth.Net president Pat Toomey. "Perhaps Don Young can afford a dollar a gallon gas tax on top of four dollars a gallon gasoline, but most Alaskans can't and they deserve to know what kind of tax hike their congressman is promoting. We hope people in Alaska will call Don Young and tell him they can't afford his gas tax."
