New TV Ads in Alaska

Club for Growth.Net Releases Major Ad Buy in Alaska

Washington - Today, Club for Growth.Net began running a major statewide ad buy in Alaska. The $100,000 ad buy will run for two weeks on broadcast and cable television throughout the state.

The ad buy contains two 15 second bookend ads-"Dollar a Gallon" and "Slow Down"-and seeks to educate people in Alaska about Don Young's recent support for a one dollar a gallon gas tax. Even as gasoline prices topped four dollars a gallon, Rep. Don Young called for a 400% increase in the gas tax because Young wants people to stop driving "like a bunch of idiots." Young made these comments during a Transportation Committee Hearing on May 6, 2008. If enough people call Don Young, perhaps he will reconsider such misguided proposals in the future.

"Listening to Don Young propose a huge gas tax hike, it is clear that the congressman is out of touch with regular Americans," said Club for Growth.Net president Pat Toomey. "Perhaps Don Young can afford a dollar a gallon gas tax on top of four dollars a gallon gasoline, but most Alaskans can't and they deserve to know what kind of tax hike their congressman is promoting. We hope people in Alaska will call Don Young and tell him they can't afford his gas tax."

New TV Ad in New Mexico

Club for Growth.Net Releases New Ad Buy in New Mexico

Washington - Today, Club for Growth.Net released a new television ad in New Mexico. The $175,000 ad buy will run for two weeks on broadcast and cable throughout the state.

Entitled "Budget," the ad educates people in New Mexico about Rep. Heather Wilson's record on important economic issues, like taxes, spending, and health care. In Congress, Heather Wilson has joined the Democrats in voting for two tax increases, a slew of outrageous pork projects, and the expanded government-run health care program contained in the SCHIP bill. In contrast, Rep. Wilson's colleague Rep. Steve Pearce voted against wasteful spending, against raising taxes, and against the Democrats' government-run health care program. The ad encourages people to call Heather Wilson and ask her to be fiscally conservative when voting for this year's budget.

"This ad seeks to educate people in New Mexico about Heather Wilson's tax-and-spend record in Congress, and the best way to do that is by presenting a contrast," said Club for Growth President Pat Toomey. "New Mexico has two Republican congressional members. One votes with the Democrats for tax increases and wasteful spending-that's Heather Wilson. The other votes against tax increases and wasteful spending-that's Steve Pearce. We hope the ad encourages people in New Mexico to call Rep. Wilson and ask her to vote for more conservative tax policies."

New TV Ad in New Mexico

Club for Growth.Net Releases Major Ad Buy in New Mexico

Washington - Today, Club for Growth.Net released a television ad in New Mexico. The $200,000 ad buy will run for a week on broadcast and cable throughout the state.

The ad seeks to educate people in New Mexico about Rep. Heather Wilson's record on taxes and spending in Congress, with the hope that they will call Rep. Wilson and encourage her to adopt more fiscally responsible policies. The ad focuses in particular on Heather Wilson's support for the SCHIP bill, which would raise taxes dramatically, increase government spending by $35 billion, and massively expand government-run health care.

"Most Republicans in the House recognized the SCHIP bill for the big-government bonanza that it was, but Heather Wilson joined with Hillary Clinton and Nancy Pelosi in supporting higher taxes, more government spending, and government-run health care," said Club for Growth.Net President Pat Toomey. "With this ad, we hope to educate taxpayers throughout the state about Heather Wilson's economic record. We encourage them to call Rep. Wilson and tell her to vote against Nancy Pelosi's tax increases and big-government programs in the future."

New Ad in Michigan

ClubforGrowth.Net Releases New Huckabee Ad in Michigan

Washington – Club for Growth.Net will begin running a new television issue ad tomorrow in Michigan, educating the public about Mike Huckabee’s tax-and-spend record and urging people to call Mike Huckabee and tell him to support a permanent moratorium on taxation of Internet access. As governor, Mike Huckabee joined with two Democratic governors in opposing a federal ban on Internet taxes, saying a federal ban would amount to “putting a federal stop sign onto a state road."

Using a folksy humorous tone, the $200,000 ad buy demonstrates just how liberal Mike Huckabee’s record was on taxes and spending. In fact, his economic record looks a lot like that of another governor from Hope, Arkansas—Democrat Bill Clinton. Besides increasing spending by 50%, Huckabee’s support for higher taxes included:

  • Sales tax (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 10/17/96)
  • Gas tax (Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, 04/02/99)
  • Grocery tax (Associated Press, 09/11/02)
  • Taxes on nursing home beds (Associated Press, 06/25/01)
  • Taxes on Internet access (Reuters, 02/23/04)

“Mike Huckabee argues that he is an economic conservative because he cut taxes ninety times, but he doesn’t tell the American public that his tax increases far surpassed his tax cuts,” said Club for Growth.Net President Pat Toomey. “Given Mike Huckabee’s persistent dissembling, Club for Growth.Net feels it is important to educate people about Mike Huckabee’s economic record so they can call the Arkansas governor and challenge him to reform his economic policies. The ad reflects Club for Growth.Net’s conviction that economic growth can only be sustained by lowering the tax burden.”

The $200,000 ad buy will run on statewide broadcast and cable television stations in Michigan through January 15.
